Do We Have To Have
A Wedding Cake?

by Kari Newsom

Definitely Not! Though wedding cakes tend to be a much admired attraction of any wedding - they are not a must. Do consider, though, that you can get such unique cakes these days - and they are nothing near plain! You can get cakes that look like they just came out of Alice in Wonderland™ or The Wizard of Oz™ or from a King's Palace. You can also get flavors such as Oreo™, Cappuccino, Banana, Passion Fruit, Orange, Spiced and so many more. So, if you're staying away because you think it's boring - search around your local bakeries and you'll find that it's far from true.

If you just don't like cake or just want to be different - there are many different options you can try. Adding your own personal style to your wedding is always a plus - and that can involve substituting the traditional cake with some other dessert. Be creative, mix and match, try something new. Who knows, you may start a new tradition.

Here a few different ideas for substituting a wedding cake:

-Cheesecake (variety of flavors)
-Sugar Cookies with Buttercream frosting
-Sorbet
-Assorted Desserts (pies, cakes, cookies)
-Canoli
-Ice Cream
-Baklava (a wonderful Greek dessert)

Even if you decide to not serve an actual wedding cake - it is a good idea to serve some sort of dessert. Your guests will truly be thankful!
