sculptor's dough

What you'll need…

  • 1 cup salt
  • 2 cups hot/boiling water
  • 3-4 cups flour

How???

  • In a large bowl, dissolve salt in the hot water
  • Allow to cool until you can touch it
  • Add the flour SLOWLY, you may not need all four cups
  • Knead the dough until smooth (about 5 minutes)
  • If using cookie cutters, roll dough out on floured surface, and to make a hole for ribbon (if making ornaments, use a drinking straw and press into dough)
  • Create the designs you want (pretzel shape, ornaments, figurines, etc.)
  • Using a toothpick, poke holes in the dough to eliminate air bubbles when baking
  • Bake dough at 325 degrees until it's hard
  • Decorations can be painted and have things glued onto them such as glitter, beads, ribbon, etc.
  • This dough is NOT EDIBLE
  • You must bake it all the way through - if it is still 'doughy', bake it longer. If you don't, they will mold.
