Children's Chores -
To Do Lists

It's not so much that children need a list - but it's good for them to help build skills in remembering things that need to be done. You can also make these into charts, where they can get a sticker everytime they accomplish something on their list. This motivates kids to keep their responsibilites. Some parents have considered this 'not good' - that kids don't need motivation - they should just do it. Well, most adults like a little motivation as well - after all, we ALL expect a paycheck at the end of the week or end of every two weeks for doing work for our companies. In fact, most of us wouldn't do one thing for our companies unless they 'rewarded' us with a paycheck. This way, doing chores won't be a burden on them or stressful on you. Rather it will be something they will do without complaining - excited for their reward. If you make a chart, make a deal with them that when the chart is filled in, that you will do something special for them, such as: take them to a movie, take them for ice cream, buy them a magazine or book - something special for them. This relieves the stress of having to fight your kids to do their chores.

This list is not exhaustive - as each household will have different needs that need to be taken care of as well as there being different chores for different ages. Use this list to get you started.
