These
flash card books are a great way to teach your children everything
from the alphabet to animals, to objects in a house. They
are good for any age - you just pick what you want your
children to learn. I gave my nephew a flash card book of the alphabet
and numbers 1-10 when he was only 8 months old. Even though all he
could do what flip the pages and look at them - as he got older it
was easier for him to identify the letters. By the time he was two
he could read the alphabet and not just sing them.
You will need blank index cards to start this project - plain white
or colored. You may use the size you desire, but the bigger, the better.
You can either write, draw or cut out pictures from magazines for
your children to learn from. If you are wanting to teach them family
members, use actual photographs
on the index cards.
When doing flash card books on things like animals and objects - on
one side put the object and write out the name. On the back side of
the same card, just place the object and see if they can spell if
for themselves. The best way to keep these from getting all torn up
is to put them in small 4x6 photo books.
They have soft covers and all you have to do is insert the index cards
in each slot. You can also laminate them and use rings to bind them.
Below are some ideas you can do for different flash card books:
Alphabet - Capital on one side
/ lower case on the other
Numbers
States on one side, the capitals
of those states on the back
Colors and shapes (one side
with the names and one without)
Put
family names and even pictures into flash book form so they can learn
to recognize their relatives
even the ones who live far away.
Do one side with the name and picture and one side with just the name
to learn spelling.
