Proper Skin Cleansing

Cleansing is an important factor in keeping your skin healthy, clean and younger looking. Though many people do not have a cleansing routine - they are a good habit to start. You may not think it will make much difference now, but as you get older you will be thankful you took better care of your skin.

There are many different types of cleansers and many different ways to cleanse your face and body. There is no one 'right' product for everyone. You will probably have to try a few different brands and see which works the best for your skin type.

An age old question of, "Do I have to use the same brand for all the products I use on my skin?" has been answered in many different ways - but this is how I look at:

When choosing products for your face it is most usually the best thing to stick with one brand for all your cleansers, toners, moisturizers, etc. Here's why - many product lines have been created to work in unison with each other - a form of 'synergy' you could say. While it is possible to use one brand for your cleanser and another for your moisturizer - it is widely recommended that you stick with one brand to give you the most effective results. The ingredients will work better with each other and will work at their greatest levels when used together. Again, that is completely up to each individual as to whether or not they do that - but the results have proven to be more effective when using just one product.

We should cleanse our faces everyday - especially in the evening to wash away all the impurities from the day. It's also good to follow each cleanse with some sort of moisturizer to lock in the moisture and keep your face hydrated.

When you go to bed is a great time to give your skin a rest, so you should always wash your face before going to bed. As you sleep, your skin replenishes itself and produces natural oil to help hydrate your face as well. Washing and using a moisturizer before you go to bed will allow your skin to breathe - so get in the habit of cleansing every night.
You should cleanse in the morning as well to freshen your face. Using a gentle cleanser will get the job done. If you tend to have dry skin, finding the right cleanser and moisturizer are important to start getting your skin going on the right track. Again, you should always use a moisturizer after cleansing to lock in the moisture. You should start using one that has sunscreen already in it - even if you are only outside for small amounts of time. Over the years, this will be a skin saver.

If you wear make-up it is a good idea to wear a foundation, because it helps keep all the dirt and impurities from the air from embedding themselves in your pores. I know most people don't like foundation because it's thick or it always looks caked on - but you can find many brands that are light and look extremely natural (Mary Kay). Another way to keep your foundation looking nice and smooth is to have cleansed skin and moisturized skin. If your skin is bumpy and dry - the foundation won't look that good - but a good skin care routine will help take care of that in no time!
