More and more, people are taking the extra step in taking care of themselves, physically, especially their skin. Using scrubs and masks as part of your 'beauty regime' are common and ever abundant. Below are some scrubs and masks that you can make yourself with simple ingredients right from your kitchen.

A few informational tips about scrubs and masks to help understand the importance of them:

Facial scrubs have the job of exfoliating and removing dead skin cells from our faces - as well as the rest of our bodies. Once we exfoliate our faces, they are able to absorb moisturizers better since your skin is retaining water better as well. You will also notice a smoother texture on your skins surface after using a scrub. When making your own, make sure to grind your ingredients as fine as you can so it won't be too harsh on your face. Also take note as to the ingredients that shouldn't be used on your face (such as salt). Remember that it doesn't have to be extremely coarse to work as a scrub or to exfoliate. Many products contain natural 'ingredients' that automatically do the job (such as: natural acids found in tomatoes and papaya's).

Masks, which have been around for centuries, are a great way to clean and moisturize your face. You should always cleanse your face before applying a mask to get the most from the treatment. Masks can do a number of things, including but not limited to: exfoliating, cleaning deep down to remove skin impurities (unclogging pores), moisturizing and more. One of the oldest forms of facial masks used is mud or clay masks. You can buy green clay, white kaolin clay and other kinds of clay at your local health food store. These are great when used alone or with other ingredients. These especially leave your skin feeling soft.

After using a facial scrub or mask, always clean your face thoroughly and splash cool water on your face to help close your pores. Use a good moisturizer to seal in the moisture.

(It is a good idea NOT to do a scrub or mask on the day of a big event, such as a wedding or graduation). Always do your facial treatments at least 24 hours in advance).
