Below are a couple recipes to make for your time in the sun. Make sure you take heed to the difference between a sunscreen, sunblock and suntan lotion. If you burn very easily - always wear the highest SPF sunBLOCK that you can find.

Always take caution when out in the sun for long periods of time. If you can, wear a moisturizer that contains SPF 15 on your face - especially around your eyes. Wear sunglasses as much as you can. This helps block the UV rays and also keeps you from squinting too much (a lot of squinting will cause wrinkles and lines around your eyes). If you get sunburned, apply a soothing cream to help relieve the pain. If you don't want your face to get too much sun, wear a hat and glasses as well. Always drink plenty of WATER when you are out in the fun for very long. Pop, alcohol and even lemonade will dehydrate you instead of hydrating you. Anything with a lot of sugar will do the same thing - so it's best to stick to straight water when you're in the sun.

Sun Block

  • 2 tablespoons zinc oxide (white or colored)
  • 3 teaspoons light sesame oil
  • 1 tablespoon distilled water

In the microwave, heat the zinc (you can find this at your local drugstore) and sesame oil and mix well. Immediately after removing from the microwave, slowly stir the water in and mix thoroughly. Pour into a container with lid and allow to cool before placing lid on.

Suntan Oil

  • 1/2 cup light sesame oil
  • 3 tablespoons cocoa butter
  • 2 tablespoons coconut oil

In the microwave, heat ingredients in a glass container until all solids are melted. Pour into a container that will have a tight lid. Allow to cool before placing lid on container.

Sunburn Relief

  • Soak in a tub with 2-3 cups of apple cider vinegar.
  • Apply witch hazel with a cotton pad to the sunburned areas.
  • Pure aloe vera gel (liquid form).

Spray Bottle

  • If you can't soak in a tub, try putting the mixture in a spray bottle and spray directly on the skin and let it soak in on its own.

  • Dilute apple cider vinegar with water in a ratio of 1:8.

  • Plain witch hazel can be used in a spray bottle. If you have sensitive skin, dilute a little with water.

Extra Tips:

  • If you get sunburned make sure you drink plenty of water to remain hydrated.

  • Use a good moisturizing lotion and apply often to sunburned skin.
