This
depends on what kind of paint you are using. Most paints today are
latex or water base which means that a nylon brush is best for applying
to most surfaces. If you are using an oil based product or stain
a good quality bristle brush made of camel hair or other natural
products are best. There are many grades of quality of brushes.
The better the quality the better the finish will look.
A high quality nylon brush will be soft and flexible. A poor quality
nylon brush will be stiff and not very flexible. If you are painting
a fence, you don't necessarily need an expensive brush. If you're
painting a flat door, you will not want brush streaks showing when
you are done. This would call for a softer, more expensive brush.
There are additives that you can add to some paints that will help
them flow out better that will counter the effects for an inferior
brush (See Special Finishes).
