• Mail wedding invitations 4-6 weeks before your wedding date. Six weeks is usually good so people can keep their calendars open.

  • At 4 weeks, mail out invitations to the rehearsal dinner.

  • Contact your bakery and double check to make sure they have the correct design and colors for you cake. Go in personally, show them a picture, get a fax or email from them showing you what cake they are planning on doing. You don't want to get to your reception and find they did the cake wrong. It will be too late!

  • A month before your wedding you will need to apply for a marriage license (most states are only valid for 30 days from purchase date, so don't get it too early). Check to see if you need witnesses present when filing for the license.

  • Chek with your state as to their laws concerning blood tests before obtaining a wedding license.

  • Arrange and/or confirm accomodations for out of town guests to make sure that week or weekend goes smoothly with no hassles for you, them or the hotels.

  • Most bridal shops will do one last fitting before you take the dress. Schedule for your last fitting and give yourself time in case they are busy.

  • Purchase your grooms wedding gift, if you are choosing to exchange gifts.

  • But guest book.

  • Go over ceremony and reception plans one more time. Make sure you have all the details taken care of.

  • Create a list of "shots" for your photographer if you have certain pictures you want taken that aren't in their package description. Most photographers welcome these lists so they can be sure to capture the memories you want.

  • If you are having out of town guests, prepare a welcome gift for them to have in their hotels or wherever they may be staying. Supply them with local restaurants, entertainment, etc. Give them the itinerary of the wedding and provide maps to the ceremony and reception.

  • You will usually have your bridal shower during this time - so make time for that.
