Groomsmen
will usually be close family members or friends of the groom.
Most grooms also ask the bride's brothers (if she has any) to
stand as groomsmen. Believe it or not, grooms need a support team
during the wedding planning just like brides. Groomsmen need to
be supportive during this time and offer to help the groom out
with any details of the planning. Be mature and willing to help
knowing this is one of the most important days of your friends
or family member's life.
Be
supportive during the wedding planning....first and foremost.
Be a good friend, be mature and be available.
Help
the best man plan a night out with the guys. Many couples these days
opt for a co-ed dinner or gathering the week of the wedding.
Attend
the rehearsal and rehearsal dinner.
Help
the best man with anything he needs help with. He may have his hands
full.
Be
prepared to pay for your tux. Some grooms may be wonderful and
pay for all the groomsmen attire, but not all do. Don't worry
though, tux rentals are pretty inexpensive (at least compared
to a bridesmaid's dress).
Make
sure you go to your fitting before the deadline. Don't wait until
the last minute or else the groom will have the tux store calling
him until all his party has been fitted.
Pick
up your own tux, usually the day before the wedding. Go as early as
you can in case it doesn't fit right (this happens all the time).
Show
up to the ceremony site when the groom does so you can help with whatever
needs to be done. You may have to help set up or carry heavy items
- whatever it is, just do it graciously.
You
may need to double as an usher if there are no formal ushers or the
usher need help. Read here for Usher
Guidelines to get tips on
the proper way to do this, especially to know proper etiquette for
different religious ceremonies.
During
the reception, help other guests if they need to know where the
restroom is, where to put the gifts, where to sit, etc.
Purchase
a nice gift for the bride and groom. If you want to buy something
really nice, go into the gift with another groomsmen.
